There are more fish and chips in Scotland than you could possibly hope to visit, but there are some across the country that stand apart from the crowd. Whether because of their location or accolades, there are a few chippies that are a cut above the rest.

One fish and chip shop near Glasgow doesn’t just have a one-of-a-kind setting, but also recen tly earned a top accolade at a prestigious award ceremony. As previously reported by the Daily Record, the winners of the annual Scottish Fish and Chip Awards were announced in November.

Among the winners of the awards was McMonagles Fish and Chips in Clydebank, which took home the prize for Best Fish Tea. A fish tea traditionally refers to battered haddock or cod and chips served with a pot of tea and a side of buttered bread, with the latter provided to make a ‘chip butty’— a sandwich filled with chips.

McMonagles Fish and Chips is known for its unique position inside a boat docked in the Fourth and Clyde Canal, making it a popular tourist attraction as well as a restaurant. The eatery offers both formal dining in its upstairs space and casual seating outside, as well as take-away orders.

The restaurant’s sit-in menu includes a Catch of the Day, as well as haddock fillet, cod, salmon steak, and scampi. Other mains on offer include homemade steak pie, deep-fried chicken breast, and macaroni pasta.
