Chicago PD Season 13 Spells Heartbreak as Voight and Chapman Split for Good qc01
Chicago PD fans might want to brace themselves as it seems one central couple is heading to splitsville.
It seems the ship has truly sailed for one budding couple on Chicago PD, not that it should be of any surprise to fans after how season 12 ended.
If there was any doubt at all that Voight and Chapman’s romance was put on ice, Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan has confirmed that the relationship is as good as dead. After Voight crossed the uncrossable line in season 12 by orchestrating the events that led to Deputy Chief Charlie Reid’s death, Chapman will see no romantic figure with Voight. As Sigan told TVLine, “all hope is lost” for a romance between the two characters, and their relationship is about to become nonexistent, it seems.
Following the events of the season 12 finale, Chapman will stop “showing up” for the Intelligence Unit as we saw across the past few seasons. It’s unclear if that means she’ll truly stop showing up altogether, Sigan seemed to hint we might not be done with Chapman just yet hinting that she and Voight will try to remain professional amid this shift in their relationship.
Honestly, it’s really not any surprise at all that Chapman and Voight’s romantic relationship is dead in the water. Voight crossed a line he cannot come back from and the look in Chapman’s eyes when she learned the truth about his role in Reid’s death made it clear there was no real future for the pair romantically.
Will Voight finally get a relationship in Chicago PD season 13?
While Voight isn’t going to find love in his relationship with Chapman after ruining that relationship, it seems we might actually see Voight get a proper romantic storyline this season.
Sigan hinted to TVLine that the season ahead will feature “some romantic entanglements with a ‘little bit of weirdness.’” Could this be a sign that Voight will finally get a romantic relationship that actually involves a bit of romance? Fans are definitely hoping that will be the case!
We’ve seen many shades of Voight over the years, but we haven’t really gotten to see what Voight looks like in love, as he’s never had a proper romantic relationship within the show. Voight’s wife, Camille, an elementary school teacher, died before Chicago PD began with Voight already a widower by the time the show started. While there have been some flirtations over the years, we’ve never gotten to see Voight truly in love and perhaps that’s always been by design.
Voight often makes choices that fall in the morally gray area or step way over the line, so it seems likely the show has balanced this scale by preventing Voight from having much happiness in his personal life. That’s a very just and understandable approach, but that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t love to see a different side of Voight. Who knows, perhaps a woman with a strong moral compass is what Voight needs to finally walk the straight and narrow.
