In tonight’s Chicago P.D. episode, Detective Imani was contacted by an old acquaintance. She was contacted by Sara. Sara was someone who helps out families with missing people. In Imani’s case, it was her sister that went missing. It was different for Jemma Kurtwright. Her son has been missing eighteen years and she claimed he stopped by her house that night.
She quickly called Sarah to tell her only Sarah was worried. Jemma’s son went missing as a child. The odds of getting him back were slim and nevermind the fact that she wouldn’t even know what he’d look like an adult. Just because he claimed to be her son doesn’t mean he was.
He could be a scammer for all they knew. He asked for cash. He asked that they don’t call the police. This man claiming to be Ben could realize that Jemma was vulnerable.
Jemma has been hospitalized several times since her son went missing. Imani looked into it. There had been a man that visited Jemma. Her son Ben would be twenty-five. He was taken when he was seven. The cops always believed he got grabbed by the slides. This “Ben” said the same thing. Imani clued in Voight. They followed the car that Ben was driving back to a house.
The house was owned by an LLC. It was supposed to be vacant and it wasn’t. Torres saw lights on inside. The cops didn’t have a warrant so they were forced to knock.
Ben told Jemma that the man that grabbed him was now holding other kids. Kids he didn’t want to endanger. Its why he had to go back to the man’s house and why she couldn’t tell anyone he was there. Ben has visited Jemma three times. He’s gotten money with each visit. Imani wanted to believe he was really Ben. Until she got into the house.
Ben wasn’t that man’s name. He didn’t have Ben’s birthmark on his collarbone. He was arrested as a fake and a DNA test proved he wasn’t the real Ben.
They didn’t know who he was. He was staying at that house alone. There was no man. This fake Ben had accessed to credible information that he was sitting on. He refused to give his real name. His DNA wasn’t in the system. Imani used Jemma to break him. Jemma said that this man knew the lullaby she made up for her son. His nickname. This plus the slide showed he had inside information. Jemma begged for it.
She pleaded with him until he agreed to talk. First, he wanted a deal. He also didn’t want to see Jemma again. The guy’s real name is Tillman Brant. He didn’t want to give it because he was wanted for several cons across the United States. Only he did know something. Tillman has a brother named Eddie. Eddie liked to be “friends” with little boys.
He always had. Tillman visited one day and Ben was his new friend. Ben got to talking to Tillman. He told him about his mom and how he wanted to go home. And Tillman ignored his pleas.
He was a horrible man. He overlooked a lot of what his brother did when he could’ve helped those kids. It wasn’t just Ben at the house. There’s always more little boys there.
The brothers didn’t keep much in contact lately. He didn’t have a phone number for him. The house where he saw Ben all those years ago was sold and Eddie moved elsewhere. The only way that Tillman knew how to contact him was through the dark web because Eddie was always on there buying more boys. Tillman wrote that he needed cash fast. He agreed to a trade off with a teen boy.
The boy being used bait was Grady. Jemma’s other son. The one she had after she lost Ben. Grady was a replacement child and its always messed with his head. Still, Grady agreed to be their bait. It worked or at least nearly worked. Eddie showed up. He brought along a kid with him. The kid made Imani.
He saw that she was a cop and then he alerted Eddie. They took off before police could stop them. Fortunately, they had still photo. The young boy was in and out of juvie. He’s been missing for weeks. He also had been logging into social media for days. He logged in from a home IP that stated the house belonged to Eddie Tillman. He borrowed his brother’s name.
Registered sex offenders probably have issues with buying a house legally. The cops went to the house. They saved the young boy and they were forced to kill Eddie when he fired at them.
With him dead, it was up to that young boy to answer questions. They asked him if he ever met Ben and they showed him a picture of what he would’ve looked like. The kid has never seen it, but he knew about Ben. Eddie admitted he accidentally killed Ben and they checked into that. Ben died a day after he was taken.
The wound to the head had been too much for him to survive without medical attention. He died. Ben then dumped his body into Lake Michigan and he was seen. So, the water authorities spoke to him at the time. They gave him a citation because they never saw what he dumped. This was all a matter of record. Ben was dead. And there was just Gemma who refused to believe it.
She won’t believe it until she sees a body and so Imani was worried about ended up liking her. Maybe she was wasting her time looking for her missing sister when all along she might be dead.
