In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Herrmann’s kids were still adjusting to their new lives. They haven’t moved past the fire. Annabelle was having nightmares about waking up to smoke and she’s taken to sleeping with her parents. Remember this is a teenage girl. She couldn’t wait to be away from them for a while.
She was the typical teenager before the fire and now they’re worried she might be traumatized by what happened. They did lose their house. She lost her clothes, her diaries, and her safe place. It would make sense that she couldn’t just forget. Her parents were considering therapy. Herrmann was discussing it with Kidd when they got bad news at the firehouse.
The higher ups are playing musical chairs with whose on call. They pulled Vasquez that morning. Which worked for Violet. Violet and Vasquez slept together.
Violet was now regretting that because she found out that Vasquez was Novak’s work crush. Novak was having something casual with Dr. Frost. They haven’t put a name to it. They didn’t even know if they were exclusive. The one thing Novak did know was that she accidentally left Frost in her apartment alone that morning and she’s worried about him going through her drawers.
Thus Novak’s door was still open. She mentioned Vasquez was a work crush because she was gossiping with a friend. She didn’t know that Violet already climbed that mountain and had wanted to tell her about it.
Violet quickly clammed up though when she realized she broke the girl code. It’s a good thing Vasquez wasn’t working with them that day. Violet wouldn’t know how to react to him. She was so busy trying to bury what she thought was a mistake that a call out proved too good to be true. And it was in a way.
They got called to the scene of a textile market. Everyone at the market was trapped inside because the place wasn’t set up to be that. There was one door.
It was locked and people were banging on begging to be let out. The firefighters got them out. They were clearing the many rooms inside when a beam fell on Tony. Severide was in Cleveland visiting Isaiah. It was Cruz’s call and he might get into some trouble about it. Chief Cranston later stopped by the station. He asked about the injured firefighter.
Chief Pascal knew that a chief didn’t just stop by on a whim. He talked Cruz up. He said that tonight’s accident was on whoever decommissioned an engine and not on Cruz. Chief Cranston then replied that he understood Cruz wasn’t at fault. They weren’t looking at him. They were looking at Chief Pascal himself. Pascal was made to answer questions about the day. It doesn’t help he had history with Cranston. Cranston was Pascal’s first partner on the job. They had a call that ended badly and disagreed on what caused it. There’s been bad blood between them ever since then.
Now Cranston was ensuring there was an OFI investigation. It wouldn’t go well for Pascal. Pascal tried to investigate the fire on his own and he got caught by OFI. They told him the scene wasn’t cleared for any outside people. They also added that he personally couldn’t visit or discuss this case with OFI in any way. He was being investigated. His call that day was being investigated. It technically didn’t matter that Tony was going to be fine. They wanted someone to blame and Severide wasn’t around to talk in Van Meter’s ear.
Cranston found out about the visit. He took Pascal to the task. Pascal realized he made a mistake, but the two also got talking about the call that ended badly. A woman died hiding behind her bed. Cranston always thought Pascal blamed him. Pascal actually blamed himself. He should’ve pushed against orders and he didn’t in spite knowing that Cranston wasn’t that type of guy to get upset. Pascal was just about to bury things with Cranston when the next thing he heard was that Cranston collapsed at a scene. He didn’t make it. He died after years of them not talking.
It delayed Pascal’s hearing. Not that Pascal minded. He had a funeral to attend. He was attending the wake when he learned that the OFI investigation cleared Pascal. Cranston remembered what he said about the sudden collapse at the fire.
He pushed to clear Pascal and he would have said it in person at the hearing if he hadn’t died. It left Pascal feeling guilty. He was feeling bad as Novak ended things with Dr. Frost. He wanted something serious and she couldn’t get serious about anyone. She was running from commitment.
Violet didn’t judge her. She quietly asked if she didn’t get serious about him because she has feelings for someone else and the answer was no. Novak’s childhood trauma was what’s stopping her. Not that she told Violet as much.
And Herrmann got Annabelle to sign up for Girls On Fire. The program seemed a right fit now that Annabelle wants to be a firefighter like her dad.
THE END!
