Casualty real-life couple Olly Rix and Anna Chell announce engagement with sweet post
Call the Midwife actor Olly Rix has been inundated with congratulatory messages following the announcement of his engagement to fellow actress Anna Chell.
The couple, who both appear in Casualty as surgeon Flynn Byron and nurse Jodie Whyte, revealed their happy news on Instagram on Monday (January 19).
Posting on social media, Olly, 40, known for his role as Matthew Aylward in Call the Midwife, uploaded an intimate photograph of himself planting a tender kiss on Anna’s forehead.
In the image, Anna, 29, gazes towards the camera whilst savouring the romantic moment with her newly betrothed partner.
The caption was kept wonderfully simple, featuring just an engagement ring emoji and a red heart, which prompted an outpouring of excitement from followers, reports the Mirror.
Casualty co-star Sammy Dobson, who portrays Nicole Piper, wrote: “ARGHHHH! ! ! ! THIS IS SO, SO LUSH! ! ! Congratulations! ! !”.
Another admirer declared: “Best news! Roll on the wedding”, whilst a third added: “Congratulations to you both lots of love and happiness xx.”
One fan enthused: “This seems like a very exciting and fairly subtle announcement! Ooh. You guys are a thing! ? More than a thing! ! ? As a fan of the show: congratulations, what a beautiful couple xx”.
Olly first went public with his relationship with Anna in August 2025, sharing a series of photographs featuring the pair alongside his Cocker Spaniel, Nellie. His Instagram caption read: “Summer with Anna and Nellie”, much to fans’ delight.
Olly initially graced our screens as Matthew in Call the Midwife in 2021. After sparking a romance with Trixie Franklin, portrayed by Helen George, his character was promoted to a regular role in the 11th series.
However, following Matthew and Trixie’s nuptials, Matthew bid farewell to Poplar for a fresh start in New York due to financial woes, coinciding with Olly’s exit from the show in 2024. Trixie remains a character on the programme.
Subsequently, Olly joined the cast of Casualty at the beginning of 2025, where he is rumoured to have met Anna on the set of the medical drama.
On the other hand, Anna made her television debut in the ITV drama The Bay, playing Kerry Lockwood in 2022. She then landed the role of Jodie Whyte in Casualty in 2023.
