Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ reunion of iconic couple as exit news confirmed

Coronation Street fans think they have ‘worked out’ a reunion between a former couple after it was confirmed that an exit will be taking place this summer.
It was confirmed this week that Claire Sweney will be bowing out of the ITV soap later this year, three years after she made her debut in the role of Cassie Plummer.
The actress, who shot to fame playing Lindsey Corkhill in Channel 4’s defunct soap, Brookside, arrived on the cobbles as Cassie Plummer back in 2023. She arrived as drug user Cassie, and was revealed to be the long-lost mum of Tyrone Dobbs and the estranged daughter of Evelyn Plummer.
Cassie has since made a home for herself in Weatherfield alongside her family, and new love interest Steve McDonald. However, it’s been confirmed that Claire will be waving goodbye to the ITV soap after three years this summer.
The news was confirmed on Thursday (January 29) after it was announced that she will be taking on the role of Miss Hannigan in the upcoming tour of Annie. She will be taking over the role in July from Strictly Come Dancing star La Voix, who will be making her debut when the new tour gets underway in Wimbledon on May 23.

Following the news, many Corrie fans admitted to being “gutted” about Claire – and Cassie’s – departure. Now, some are predicting what could happen following Cassie’s exit as it appears to mean the end of her relationship with cab driver Steve.
Northernplace89 said on Reddit: “Oh yep Tracyluv & Steve will end up back together.” @SmilieFlorida commented: “@clairesweeney #Corrie gutted that Cassie is leaving the street. Hope the door is left open for her to return. Such a great actress. Hope Cassie doesn’t break Steve’s heart, BUT opportunity to get Steve and our Tracey back together!”
But some aren’t so keen on the idea. @SwainsCoat shared: “For the love of god, don’t put Steve and Tracy back together.” @daisysmidgeley replied: “pls never put any woman with steve ever again. or kevin for that matter.” @welovekatefordx added: “Please god no.”
