Carl’s crimes caught out in Coronation Street as further discovery leaves Abi reeling in early ITVX release

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Abi Webster’s (Sally Carman) world fell apart last week when she discovered that brother-in-law turned lover Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) had been cheating on her, but she has since made a further discovery which has left her heartbroken and furious.

If you asked Carl to define the word ‘faithful’, he would probably tell you it’s one of the roles on The Traitors. We can confidently say that he hasn’t got a clue about the real definition, let alone putting it into practice in a relationship.

When Carl first rocked up in Weatherfield, Abi was married to his brother, Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell).

Unfortunately, her head was turned by Carl, and as tensions grew in her marriage, she was drawn in.

While Abi tried her hardest to fight her feelings, Carl got down and dirty with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), who could tell his heart was really with someone else.

By the time Abi and Carl started having a full blown affair, it was Tracy who was first to catch them out and threaten to expose them. Now, with the truth out, Abi and Carl have moved in together.

And of course, having already proved himself a lousy cheat once, it was only a matter of time before Abi made the shocking discovery that he was also cheating on her – with James Bailey (Jason Callender).

Distracted by the devastating death of his mum, Carl has no idea that his carefully constructed house of cards is set to blow over very soon – and not just in terms of his relationship…

Viewers will know that dodgy Carl has been cooking the books at sister Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) hotels, having used her young-onset dementia diagnosis to gain access to the accounts.

However, with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) acting as manager, Carl should have been more careful with his criminal behaviour.

In tonight’s episode, baffled Ryan began investigating the accounts after receiving a tip-off from everyone’s favourite Chariot Square employee, Rafael.

With Debbie set to get married this week and Ryan keen not to rock the boat in his place of work, he decided to wait until he had more information before breaking the news to his boss.

But with the DJ-turned-manager sniffing around, how much longer will Carl be able to get away with fraud?

That might be the least of his worries, though, after Abi’s latest discovery.

In the interest of saving some surprises for the episode, we won’t reveal exactly what it was, but we can tell you that we saw her heart literally drop.

With Abi already planning her revenge, has Carl just made things ten times worse? How far will Abi go to get her own back?
